Certified Picture Framer on Staff
Melissa Contreraz of Rimrock Art & Frame in Billings, completed the Certified Picture Framer® (CPF®) examination in Las Vegas in January, 2016. The CPF® examination was developed in 1986 in conjunction with Educational Testing Services (ETS) to provide professional recognition to individuals successfully completing the established criteria.
The CPF® designation shows distinction as a certified picture framer by achieving a standard of excellence that can be trusted throughout the industry. Individuals with the CPF® designation gain professional recognition from colleagues, employees, and customers. Certification is available to custom picture framers around the world, with testing available in Imperial and Metric options.
The CPF® examination takes 3 ½ hours and covers subjects including conservation and preservation framing, glazing, matting, mounting, handling, hinging, textiles, storage, restoration and environmental considerations. According to Melissa, “Artwork and family heirlooms are so important to me. It’s my job, and my obsession really, to do everything I can to create a frame package that will preserve them for generations to come.”
Melissa has a B.A. degree from Montana State University Billings in Art and has worked in the custom framing industry since 1997. She joined the Rimrock Art & Frame staff in September, 2012.
